Starbucks & a 'Siao' Woman

Fell in love with starbucks' coffee. and vanilla of course. purposely went for its breakfast. Dunno wat fuck bread i ate.... hmmmmmmmmmm realllliiiii sedap!!! never ate such a nice sandwich before. The bacon, the eggs, the tomatoes, the crusty bread. Omg! 5.90 bucks for a set with hot tea.

used laptop to kill time and came a gal in her late twenties asking if she could share the table with mi so as to use de powerpoint plug.

After a while. She suddenly asked me what is the formula for calculating GDP.

I said: "Oh, GDP formula. Hmm GDP = Consumption + Investment + Govt expenditure + Net Export." I felt very happy cos I could still remember very well haha. Wanted to explain further about the keynesian economic theory but nah, better not waste ma breath.

She took out a paper and wrote it down. Few minutes later she asked me: "You know what is beta coefficient?"

Me: Beta cofficient of what? May I take a look?

She turned and showed me her laptop.

Me: Oh! It's multiple linear regression. Beta coefficients here are the independent variables (X). These are compared against the dependent variable (Y) to see if they are linearly related or not.

Her: So what is the dependent variable here?

Me: Let me see.... hmm the dependent variable is "Leadership qualities." Anyway what module are you preparing for and u're from wat sch?

Her: Oh Business Leadership. i'm working n studyin part-time from monash. Can you write down the formula for me and draw the graph? I got paper and pen. Wait!

Me: (in my heart i'm shouting out loud ~!!!!!! WTH!) Ok.... (So I wrote down the formula y = b1x1 + b2x2 + b3X3, and graphed it). You see, beta 1 (communication style) is 0.647 - tis means it is moderately correlated to de dependent variable Y ("Leadership qualities"). On a scale of 0 to 1; 0 means no linear relation, 1 denotes strongest relation. For every additional unit of x1, y will increase by 0.647. I doubt she could understand what i was saying.

I thought to myself how come she could ask me what is the formula for GDP when she's reading something other than economics. And why is she bothering so much about statistical techniques? Lol! Meanwhile, people beside our tables were stealing glances at our table.

Few minutes later...
Her: Do you know what is meant by the word "paradox"? I keep forgetting.
Me: It means self-contradictory.
Few minutes later...

Her: If I have no time left should I read lecture notes or additional readings huh?

Me: Lecture notes of course.

Her: Do you think such additional readings will come out in exams or not huh?

Me: I do not know, I am not fortune teller.

Her: My lecturer said very important to read additional readings because will be tested also.

Me: If you have no time just read lecture notes first.

Her: Oh yah hor.

hurrrrrrrr. She's really getting on my nerve.

Her phone rang and after she answered and put it down:

Her: My boyfriend called me. Asked me to meet him at dhoby ghaut at 6.15pm. Do you think if I leave now can make it on time or not ah? (The time was 5.15pm then).

Me: Ah yes! You should leave now! Just in time!!!

Her: I think so too. Ok la all the best to you. (She packed her bag and left).

To my horror, she walked to a stranger's table and started talking with her and left shortly.

Genting 26-28 April 2009

Just returned from genting yesterday.

26 April 2009 (Sun)

Flew to KUL and took coach up genting. Was so tired and we bumped into a long queue at the cable car station. Weather was great compared to the sweltering heat below.

Check-in at First World Hotel took ages, but was entertained by a stranger sitting at the lobby who laughed like a hyena many a times while watching cartoon channel that caught everyone's attention. In fact the hotel staff should resolve the situation immediately because it is causing unease to some guests.

Got our room finally at 6 plus and we left for dinner at Hainan Kitchen soon after placing down our bags in the room (28910). Had nasi lemak which doesn't taste very good.

Went to a park at Theme Park Hotel before returning back to room.

27 April 2009 (Mon)

Woke up at 10 plus. Had brunch at Hou Mei Restaurant. Ordered chicken breast but came chicken wings with bones. How tedious.

Went outdoor theme park. The last time i visited was with sis, many years ago, perhaps in 2004 but I can't remember.

Played pirate ships, super toboggan which messed up my hair, and a stupid simulator ride before it started to rain and we returned to first world plaza when it started raining.

Super Toboggan - it's a loner ride up, loner ride down, laugh-by-yourself kind of ride

Caught a movie, fast and furious 4, but we left halfway because the movie just bored me to death and the theatre was freezing me.

Returned to the theme park, sat on the caterpillar monorail which took us on a joyride around the theme park. Then played cyclone - the roller coaster - indeed a hair "raising" experience, because my hair totally got even messier and standing on ends. Maybe I had a bad hair day, should have applied double layer of wax.

Cyclone

Started raining again and we returned to room for nap.

Had dinner late at about 9pm at Pizza Hut. Was so hungry. Ordered garlic bread, hawaiian chicken pizza, spaghetti and spicy chicken wings. Ate till very full. Went to Theme Park Hotel's park again, and on the way 2 malay police came to 'our' assistance, to help out 2 Chinese tourists who lost their way. Apparently the couple being old china can't speak English, so I explained in Mandarin the direction to their hotel - First World Hotel. I thought they would then be able to return safely.

After half an hour later, I bumped into them upon coming out of the toilet at Resort Hotel! Got a shock. Resort Hotel and First World Hotel are located at 2 far ends. So I decided to escort both of them back to the hotel. They were from Guangzhou and the next day would be going to Singapore for 1 night. I thought to myself: "Just 1 night? Hmm yah hor Sg really like much to see anyway." When we parted, they shook my hands and thanked me profusely. Surrounding people were looking at us. But I felt happy because the worried expression on the old lady's face had turned into a happy one! I think I could consider being a PR la. Cos I chatted along the way to distract them and assured them that they will get back to the hotel safely. They even said how come I know how to speak Mandarin.

Anyway, we then went to starbucks at highland hotel. Had passion tea. A group of people were celebrating a friend's birthday beside us. Got this gal who hide the cake in her bag. I thought to myself: "Wah power! First time see people keep the cake in the bag." When she took out, one side of the cake got destroyed HAHA. So funny was her expression, "Why like that!" Duh!

28 April 2009 (Tue)

Woke up at 8am. Had buffet breakfast at Coffee Terrace restaurant in Genting Hotel. Ate kway teow, muffins, ham, baked beans, sausage, cornflakes, fried egg with orange juices. Got many other courses, but I was full already.

Bought cafe latte, iced coffee and spritzer mineral water from The Bakery. Just these 3 items cost RM22.50, a little more than the buffet breakfast (RM20.60).

Checked out from hotel at 1030, took cable car down, bus to KL Sentral at 1130. Went KLCC walk walk before flying back.

Reached home at 6.30pm.

Lingzhi vegetarian dinner/movie

Yesterday's oral communications presentation was a disaster. Suddenly forgot ma stage speech. Gotta form ma own words n so sucky. Throat wasn't feeling well so i flustered.

Returned home for a short nap before going centrepoint's starbucks to study marketing. Met up with sis n treated me for ma lunar birthday at Lingzhi vegetarian restaurant at liat tower.

Ee-fu noodles

Spinach soup

Toufu (this is the nicest)

Tender pork. Oh no! Tis' ma sis. She's going to be a bride soon yet isn't doing anything to trim down... She has recently signed up for cali gym though, and referred to cali's persistent salesforce so that she could get a year's free usage, on top of her 2-year plan.
But what can I say to cali's irritants but to say MONEY NO ENOUGH! Be it boom or recession, my money count is de same.

Dunno wat mushrooms. Got so many waterchestnut tat I got scared of eating it.
Today watched de movie titled sniper at ps with cal. Nice. Head to long john silver in centrepoint for dinner den stayed there for an hour to revise ma marketing. Then we moved on to starbucks at wheelock place. Onward to kinokuniya before going home.
Not feeling well. Breathless.

Shinjuku incident

Woke up at 1000 to do stats past year paper. Been stuck at multiple linear regression qns for almost 2 hours.

Went market ate wanton noodles den continued back home.

Left home at 2pm to watch shinjuku incident with cal at ps. Must watch!

Went dinner at food republic in ngee ann city.

Went kino n i skim read a marketing book: "Differentiate or die."

Walked from orchard to bugis. LOL... haven been walkin tis far so donkey years.

Reached home n continued doin mktg proj.

Aniwae i cant realli bother wif tis individual proj liao. Prof oredi dun like our idea. Dun wanna waste time revampin ma report.

At most during teaching feedback juz give him de lousiest grade.

- he could be more clear n coherent in his speech. mumbling to himself most of the time, as though lecturing himself.
- he could fix an ear device, cos he cant hear well and we have to repeat and shout, delaying tutorial time which could be put into more productive use.
- his lecture slides' contents are too disorganised and words are too small to see.
- his handwritings r too small. ppl can't see.

Seriously, all the above are true.
